New house built on the beach

Our private client developed architectural plans to demolish an existing timber framed dwelling and to replace with a three storey modern family home constructed to withstand the known exposed and severe coastal environment all within a contained site.

The proposal required that the lower ground floor be cut well into the shingle sea defence bank.  A two level piled RC raft foundation incorporating a retaining wall was provided due to the shingle bank and known made ground to the north of the site.  Specialist grouting was needed into the shingle bank to ensure the directly adjacent properties either side remained stable and to hold the shingle back during excavation of the lower level.
